Message from Mark and Rob
To all our valued patients,
As you will be aware, the country now finds itself in a very difficult situation. Normal business practice across all sectors has been interrupted and Dentistry is no exception.
Current situation and ongoing emergency dental care at Tupsley Dental Practice
At noon on the 25th March 2020 we were informed that we are now temporarily prevented from providing any active dental treatment. This is for the safety of YOU, us, our staff and society as a whole.
BUT we are still able to offer you help and advice. To that end, we can:
- Consult with you over the telephone to discuss your dental emergency
- Provide practical advice, and reassurance over the telephone
- Issue prescriptions without physically examining you
If treatment is absolutely necessary, we are to refer you to NHS 111. You will be directed to a treatment centre where the dentists and nurses have been provided with the appropriate personal protective equipment so that it is safe for you, and the dental team at that location.
NB These centres are not widely available and you may find that you have to travel to another city for attention.
You are likely to be seen by NHS Direct, ONLY should you have one of the following problems:
- Infection causing a swollen face, limited opening of the mouth or closure of an eye
- Bleeding that cannot be controlled either as a result of trauma or tooth extraction
- Severe and prolonged dental pain not helped by normal pain killers
- Severe dental trauma as a result of a fall or blow to the face
PLEASE REMEMBER: If you have dental emergency telephone the practice and follow the instructions on the answer phone carefully. Check our website www.tupsleydentalpractice.co.uk for information. The situation seems to change daily.
Patients on monthly dental plan
At this time, we are not stopping any of our dental plans from operating.
Whilst there will inevitably be some disruption to your normal dental appointments, not everyone will be affected. Those who are affected, should find only that planned treatments are slightly delayed, and a small number of patients may find that they have a delayed dental check-up or appointment with the hygienist.
We are attempting to make sure that everyone receives what they are due, by opening days and clinics in the second half of this year, that would not normally be worked. It is likely that we will be offering Saturday appointments as part of this extra scope.
Everyone on a dental plan at Tupsley, will continue to benefit from the financial security of knowing that if they require dental treatment as a result of an accident that treatment will be covered. Such treatment can run into thousands of pounds. We make several claims each year for patients who need this type of work, and we feel that it is a valuable part of your dental plan.
Our plea to you
We sincerely hope that you will work with us and understand that we are doing all we can at this time to preserve the business so that we can continue to care for you in the future.
We love our patients, and very much enjoy seeing you all. The interaction between us all is a very important and enjoyable part of the job. We recently looked at the average number of years that patients had been with us, and it seems that the average patient has been registered with us for 18 to 20 years. You are all so very loyal.
We fully understand that many other families and businesses will be in the same financial boat as us, and you may be considering cancelling your dental plans. IF it is within your means to do so, please do not cancel your dental plan. This is an unashamed plea to your good nature, generosity and loyalty. The dental plans may be our only lifeline, and the survival of the business may rest solely upon your loyalty and trust.
If you do need to cancel direct debits then, if possible, please call us and let us know before you do. It may be possible for you to downgrade your plan, and if it really needs to stop then at least we will be able to make adjustments to budget forecasting.
If you have any specific concerns or problems that you think we can help with, or even just general questions, then please feel free to email us at one of the following:
Please keep yourselves safe, limit all possible contact with others, and we look forward to seeing you again later in the summer.
All our warmest wishes,
Mark, Rob and everyone at Tupsley Dental Practice.
