Dear All

Welcome to the Tupsley Dental Practice news letter.  Here are just a few lines to summarise our busy year within the practice.
The year started with the joint business partnership between Mark and Rob shortly after the retirement of Mr Worthing at the end of the summer 2009.

Mr Worthing was deeply touched by your sincere messages and gifts. He is enjoying his retirement and is working very hard to get through the never ending list of jobs from Helen. The list I believe every retired gentlemen dreads! (he he)
We would like to thank you for your co-operation during the swine flu outbreak. The magazines are back however, the alcohol gels are here to stay.

Staying with infection control at Tupsley dental practice we are constantly updating our cross infection policy to obtain the required standards that the primary care trusts and government have established. You will notice some changes within the practice in the next few years. As a private practice we receive no centralised funding to purchase the required equipment to keep upto date with these standards, so we are carefully budgeting for this. Your health and safety within our practice is of paramount importance to us.
In June the team were involved with some charity events.  The team dressed up for Dentaid and the theme this year was rock and roll. Mark was a 60’s dude and yes, Elvis was alive that day as Rob. The girls were sweetly dressed with pretty petticoat skirts and neck scarves.  Dentaid  is a charity that supplies dental treatment and oral hygiene aids to third world countries and this year your kind donations raised £163.69

Also in June we entered a team for the St Michaels Hospice ‘It’s a Knockout’. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and the inflatables, crazy games with foam and water were more challenging than we thought.  There were 8 teams altogether and the competition was tough. We were there for a laugh but also to raise money for the Hospice which does a remarkable job for palliative care.
It was great experience and to our amazement after playing fairly and not cheating we WON.      Sadly Louisa had a leg injury, when on the last game she fell awkwardly off an inflatable into some soapy water. She was delighted to hear that we were the St Michaels Hospice 2010 it’s a knockout champions.

We rose £464.12 for the hospice and we are glad that Louisa’s knee is getting better. As for defending our title next year well, we will see, thanks to Stella for arranging both events and well done  team!

At the end of the summer we sadly said farewell to Sarah one of our dental nurses. Sarah has gone to London to train as a dental therapist.  Sarah was with the practice for 4 ½ years and was a great team member. We are sad to see her go but know she will become a great clinician.

Therefore we welcome Carly to the practice. Carly is a qualified dental nurse who has 3 years experience.   She has fitted into our team very well and is a great addition to the practice.

The clinical team are constantly updating their knowledge with the current trends and clinical updates in dentistry.  Mark and Rob have now completed a 2 year course on Occlusion training (occlusion is the way that we bite and our teeth meet). They have been taught by one of the world’s best specialists in this field.  Mark  is continuing for a further 6 months to complete the advanced course.

Rob is currently studying an Msc in Endodontics (root fillings). The course is 3 years and involves essays, presentations  and case studies.

Stella and Lisa have recently completed an x-ray prescribing course which means that they do not require a prescription/ treatment plan from a dentist to make a decision to take an x-ray. This is an extended duty and will be certified by Cardiff University.

Our team recently had a practice outing to Westons Cider at Much Marcle. We had a lovely time and it was great to socialise with each other. We feel it is important to do this for team building and its good to find time to talk to eachother.

So there we are for 2010 another year gone. At Tupsley Dental practice, we are continually working  to provide you with our best care and attention. We look forward to caring for you in 2011.

Regards
Lisa, Dental Therapist
